Cyberjaya Marathon 2014 - Open for registration very soon!

Who wants to run a full marathon at Cyberjaya?

Just when yours truly thought the local running seen couldn't get any better, and that December would be a slow month, along comes the latest edition to marathon running in the shape of the Cyberjaya Marathon. Thanks to the organisers I was able meet the people behind the scenes and learn a bit more about the event. Suffice to say this is a real 42.195km event, unlike some others who call themselves such, and are half a marathon short. It will feature the aforementioned full marathon and a half marathon. Much like BSN Putrajaya Night Marathon, the event will reward finishers of both categories with medals and finisher t-shirts. The start time for the FM will be 4am and for the HM it will be 5am. The cut off times will be 7 hours and 3.5 hours respectively. I have been informed that registration will open very soon. So keep an eye on this page or visit their Facebook page for the latest information.

Bukit Jalil Marathon 2015

A Marathon at Bukit Jalil?

Was waiting for when the Brooks Half Marathon would pop up. Then suddenly there's the Bukit Jalil Marathon 2015. This event is also organised by the Taman Bukit Jalil Running Club. I see that Brooks is the main sponsor, but not the title sponsor. That said, why do they call it Marathon instead of Half Marathon. Well what do I know of such things? In towns in Sarawak we have many 'marathons' too and these can range from 5km runs to 21km runs. Of course now the public in Kuching have been educated to what a marathon actually is by the inaugural Kuching Marathon. This event will be held at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil, on 8th March 2015 at 5am. Registration is now available here. From all the information I have garnered this is essentially the same Brooks Half Marathon, except that the event has been 'upgraded' to marathon status to become the Bukit Jalil Marathon 2015. Strangely also the 5km category is closed and is only for sponsor and associate. Oh well am sure when their Facebook page opens we can learn more. Unfortunately I cannot see the wording on the running vest or the finisher t-shirt clearly. All in due time I guess.

Terry Fox Run KL 2014

No Registrations | No Entry Fee | All are Welcome

Now this is my kind of run. Last year I wasn't able to run this, and it looks like the same will happen again this year, no thanks to the clash of runs. T-Shirt availability and sale locations will be coming soon. For those who don't already know, Terry Fox Run is a non commercial and non competitive run organised by individual volunteers. They do not allow any form of advertising or marketing during the run in respect to Terry Fox's original wish. People contribute to the run because they want to make a difference for Cancer Research, not because there is another agenda in mind. The Run also does not require any form of registration, all you need to do? Just show up and run! Those who want to see how the previous run went can click here. 7km Night Run in Kuching

The Power of Love Charity Run is back! This night run was supposed to be held on 29th November 2014, but due to circumstances beyond their control, the date has been changed to 22nd November 2014. The organizers regret any inconvenience caused. The distance is only 7km and the route encompasses MBKS, Jalan Padungan, Borneo Hotel, Jalan Tabuan, Jalan Mendu, Jalan Sekama and back to MBKS. It's basically what the City Jogger's Club runners run during their Thursday Night Runs. So those familiar with the route might as well give it a go. Besides this run is for Sarawak Children's Cancer Society, which is one of my favourite charities. The registration fee is RM35. This is inclusive of t-shirt and goodies bag. All finishers will receive a certificate and a medal. Their Facebook page is here.

Newton Challenge Penang 2015

Run 12km or 25km

Lately Straits Quay Penang has been the start/finish line of some memorable runs. Next year sees the Newton Challenge Penang there. Runners have two options; 12km or 25km. Those who sign up are entitled to a running vest and finisher medal open finishing the run. What's more they will also get a pair of Newton socks. What's more next year will see the introduction of 2 new categories called 3.5km Dash and 1km Dash. The 3.5km Dash caters to runners from 10 till 15 years, and they can run as buddies or 2 in a team; same gender or different genders. As for the 1km Dash, the family package from 2 to 4 participants, must have at least one child from as young as 4 till 9 years old. Yours truly has never participated in a Newton Challenge before. Just maybe come 8th February 2015, if there is no conflict in my running schedule, I will give this run a try. It sure looks like fun. Besides I am now familiar with the Straits Quay area having run there before during the Starlight Ultra, which was also organized by the My Triathlon Shop. The early bird registration rate is till applicable till 30th September 2014.

Colourful Hope Run 2014

5km run charity run in Kota Kinabalu

Lots of my running buddies in Kota Kinabalu lament that there aren't enough runs over there. They often say that Kuching has many more runs. Just learned of this charity run in Kota Kinabalu on 12th October 2014. The Colorful Hope Run starts at 6.30am at  Nasam Sabah.  Registration Fee: RM 30.00 with T-Shirt (Available at end of September 2014). Call 088 261568 for more information.

TITI 100 2015 - Open for registration!

TITI 100 is back with a BIG difference!

My constant runners will know that TITI Ultra 50km was my first experience at an ultra. Though things didn't go as planned for me I did finish the run, which actually was 53km. Undaunted I vowed to myself that I would face my demons head on again. The plan was always for me to go for TITI 100 in 2015. However as luck would have it, it falls on the same weekend as the Malaysia Women Marathon! Even though MWM was called off because of the haze I still had the most enjoyable time there, and vowed to return. My favourite Marathon Maniac, Nasa Zaidul, has said she wants to run MWM again, so my pacing services are available, and I will get to wear my MWM finisher skirt again! Am sure many guys who are doing pacing duties will do the same too. However this is about TITI 100. This year there are going to go long. By long I don't mean 100 miles, I mean 200km! That is simply a mind boggling distance for someone like me who has thus far only completed 84km.

Yes I got my trusty calculator out.  Forty hours for 200km is very fair. Just ignore the hills. I have no idea how many hours sleep I would need, as at this point I have yet to attempt 100km. Am game to try TITI 100 next year, but not the 200km yet. For those who want an even bigger challenge than Penang Ultra 100km, which sure looked like the toughest road run in Malaysia to me, know what they have to do. Lets leave it to those who run both 100kms and let them tell us what is what, so that we get to know which is the toughest run in Malaysia.  Those wanting to know more and also to register can click here. The organisers are rather vague on what the runners will get for running this race. Hopefully this year there will be a running vest to go with the finisher t-shirt and also a real medal instead of a plastic running man trophy. I like the fact that the Penang Ultra used a steel belt buckle. Now that's something for them to think about. All I can say right now is that I want that buckle!

Borneo International Marathon 2015 - Open for registration!

Who wants to run in Kota Kinabalu?

For starters, I do! Having run the Borneo International Marathon in 2013 and 2014, its a no-brainer that I will again run it in 2015. When the inaugural Kuching Marathon was run, many from Sabah came to run the FM. We in Kuching will come in droves to return the favour. We will yet again face the hills of UMS and that 29.5km timing mat out way beyond 1Borneo. We will burn yet again under the blazing sun. Why? Because we love the challenge.  What's more we just love visiting Kota Kinabalu. There's just so much to do and see there. This has always been a runcation run for me. We in Borneo just like to run, as proven by the number of participants for both our marathons. What's more Brunei has come up with their very own marathon. It suddenly popped up out of the blue and clashes with Penang Bridge International Marathon. I don't know about runners from Brunei, but we here in Malaysia need time to prepare for a full marathon. So hopefully next year they will warn us months in advance. Take BIM as an example. They have given us a year to prepare for this.

Those who know what they need to do can click here and register. For me this is a cannot miss run on my calendar. Truth be told I prefer the smaller runs as nowadays many of the runs are going for a record number of participants. Having more runners doesn't mean the marathon is better than the next. It just means that the runner has to run with more runners on the road. Of course like any run it is all up to the participant. Now in Borneo there are three full fledged marathons to choose from and a number of half marathons. That means those who never traveled out of Borneo to run can still get their wish and save lots of ringgit in the process. One day when the Trans Borneo Highway is finally completed we can just drive to the run venues. Am so hoping that Kalimantan will have a full marathon too. Imagine running four full marathons on one island but in 3 countries. That would be something else. Am so looking forward to when that day will happen. For now lets just run long in Kota Kinabalu on 3rd May 2015!
