Colour Rush 2.0 - Open for Registration!

Running for Sarawak Children's Cancer Society

Only 5km

Colour bombing mandatory!

Registration is now open! Go to  www.colourrushrun.com  for more details and to sign up. Click here to learn how much fun we all had earlier this year participating in the first Colour Rush. Now I know better. If I am going to have lots more fun I will wear my oldest shoe, my oldest socks, my oldest hat and my oldest shorts. and bring a BIG towel and a change of clothing. Why? If you have not seen the pictures, you better do so, because if you choose to wear new clothing you might not get the colour off them. I know of friends who wore their new shoes and the colour still hasn't come out. The only bit of advice I can give is keep far away from the purple dye. It's the hardest to wash off. However when the colours all mingle together that's also so bad. It helps if you can hide behind a big guy. I unfortunately have nobody to hide behind. Also be wary of your friends ambushing you at the start, during the run, and also at the finish line.

Colour Rush 1.0 (FOMR is in the middle)

Read in the papers yesterday that they hope to raise RM100,000 for the Sarawak Children's Cancer Society. Someone got the ball rolling by donating RM25,000. Your RM35 registration fee will go a long way towards helping them hit their target too. The organisers hope to attract 2,000 participants. After the success of the first run I am positive this is achievable. The new t-shirt is again white in colour. No worries all that colour will eventually wash off. Mine is nearly all white except for an almost unnoticeable smudge near my chest. For those who seldom run, this in an ideal event to join. Most of the time people will just walk it. The route is different from last year, which is a nice change.  I am so excited seeing all these runs pop up in Kuching. Lets hope this keeps on happening. The Kuching Marathon is still a ways off, but everyone can start getting ready for it by joining the shorter runs. So put on the those running shoes and go out and run! Catch you guys along a run somewhere in Kuching.

Momentum Run - Series 2 - Open for Registration!

Build up towards Kuching Marathon 2014 continues...

Second run in the Series - 16th February 2014

18km

This is the second run in Momentun Run Series. I so like the Valentine's Day motif. That little heart with the arrow through it makes this the most romantic looking running t-shirt ever! Now the distance has been increased by 3km to 18km. Momentum Run Series 1 was sold out in just FIVE days. Expect the trend to continue with Series 2. A Brooks drifit t-shirt and a uniquely crafted medal awaits the finisher. Click here to view the medal. I was told the colour of the medal and the colour of the t-shirt will be the same. There is a distinct possibility of a special drifit finisher t-shirt for all those who complete all four Momentum Runs. Lets hope am not putting any pressure on the organisers. Just make it orange in colour, okay guys? The registration fees has been increased by RM5 to RM35 based on the increase in distance. Registration is now open. Last day day for registration is 15th January 2014. Don't wait till the last moment to register as there are only 500 slots available.

Spring Live Active Run 2014 - Open for Registration!

Spring run open for registration on 16th December!

Kuching's biggest run is back for the third year running. Be sure to register quickly to take advantage of the early bird rates. This year the Spring Live Active Run promises to be the most happening ever. A new ekiden run has been added for those who want to try running the half marathon distance without actually running the whole 21km. I have been told there will be sleeveless running tops for 2014. Apart from that the run basically remains the same. Do visit their website next week for the latest information. Click here.

BSN Putrajaya Night Marathon 2014

4th October 2014?

Last night this news crept into a couple of blogs. One of whom, he knows who he is, I respect highly, as he has been doing this longer than me. The other I just got to know recently. I will be honest and say I have bought plane tickets for Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014, since I knew it would be run on 12th October. You see this year I didn't consider running SCKLM because I had already signed up for five full marathons. So I thought next year I would give it a go. The plan was for me to run the Putrajaya Night Marathon again, since I had PB in it this year. I honestly didn't think that next year's edition would occur before SCKLM. Now I am in a dilemma. While I want to run both, and I have done this sort of thing while running BIM and RJM this year, however this time around the tougher run (for me) will be SCKLM. I guess a lot of it depends on my fitness level at that time.

A new twist has just entered the running plot. Hari Raya Haji falls on 5th October 2014! That means that whoever runs BSN PNM will most probably have to rush home to shower and then go for Raya prayers a couple of hours later. If that is the case there is a possibility that the race date could be changed to either 11th October or 18th October. What's more TNF Singapore falls on 4th October too. Sometimes I wonder how the organisers come up with the race dates. As it stands I do not believe that two FMs will be run in the same weekend, so close in venue to each other. The logistics of it will be too horrible to imagine. Am positive there will be some runners who will attempt both. Don't look at me. You know who you are! For those who have not run BSN PNM, it was an amazing experience for me, since it was also my first night marathon. Feel free to visit their official website to keep up with the latest news on this marathon.

Borneo International Marathon 2014

Registration Open!

It seems like I just ran this marathon. The adventure those who finally got to run it went through this year. However it was well worth it. I got to visit Kota Kinabalu again after so long. Met up with friends and made new ones too.  Was able to PB though I didn't push much effort into the last 10km. This made me a believer and would hold me in great stead when I actually went for it during this year's Putrajaya Night Marathon and got my sub-6. After the cheating exposed at the recent Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore and also the Penang Bridge International Marathon, I am proud that, like all of my friends, we actually did run all 42.195km. Yes, I was again the slowest runner in my group, but I can hold my head up high that I played by the rules. Right now I am very angry that such cheaters bring shame to themselves and such big marathons as those just mentioned. Maybe I will post more on it later.

As for now, the Borneo International Marathon is open for registration. Click here to get to their website. If you are sure you want to run it go for the early bird right away. Me? I already bought my airline tickets before I even registered. That's how much I want to run in Kota Kinabalu again. When push comes to shove, I prefer to run in smaller races. BIM is also ideal for runners from Sarawak who want to attempt a full marathon. We don't even have to leave the island of Borneo. I so cannot wait for when the Kuching Marathon happens. Am hoping that many Sabahans will join us too. Who knows maybe our neighbours in Brunei and Kalimantan will flex their marathon might and come up with a full marathon each. Then we all can do four full marathons in Borneo. I know that's just me dreaming, but anything is possible with the right sponsors. I was just informed that another town in Kuching is very much interested in holding a full marathon. That's just the kind of news I like hearing.

So what are you waiting for? If you want to run BIM register now. That means you know for sure come 4th May 2014 you will be running. Then create your training programme. There are many good ones online. Just find one that suits you. Time is on your side if this is going to be your first full marathon. The cut off is 6 hours 30 mins. If this fat old man running could come in at 6:08 after all my adventures during the final 10km, so can you. However do please train yourself up for the distance. I know there have been stories of people who never trained for a full marathon and then running it and finishing it. But those instances are rare and usually those runners have some kind of fitness background. I wholeheartedly believe that what you put in you get out when it comes to marathon running. There is no such thing as luck. That's enough of my ramblings. I look forward to meeting you guys in Sabah again. Happy running everyone!
